
Winter Landscape, Haminalahti is the Most Beautiful Stamp of the Year 2007
The winner of the Most Beautiful Stamp of the Year 2007 competition is a stamp bearing part of a painting by Ferdinand von Wright (1822–1906), entitled Winter Landscape, Haminalahti (1856, National Museum of Finland/Cygnaeus Gallery). The painting was adapted for the stamp by Paivi Vainionpaa. The winner is a 1st class non-value indicator stamp and it was issued on 24 January 2007.
Winter Landscape, Haminalahti got 10,638 votes. In all, 46,975 votes were cast in the competition.
Second place in the competition went to a ˆ0.70 stamp depicting flaring northern lights and Lapland scenery from the International Polar Year miniature sheet. This stamp got 5,434 votes. The designers were Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi.
Third place, with 4,307 votes, went to a stamp depicting a man and a horse. The stamp was part of the Memories of Finland miniature sheet celebrating the 90th year of Finnish independence.
