Lot to be Desired
Two of the highlights of Alliance Auctions' March 4 sale are overprints from opposite sides of the world.
One is a block of four of the Republic of China 1946-48 $200 Chinese National Currency surcharge on a $4 1944-46 Sun Yat Sen reissue with a double surcharge. Three of the stamps are unmounted mint, and the block is estimated at £120.
The other is a set of Iceland stamps overprinted 'Hopflug Itala' in 1933, when Italian aviator Italo Balbo led a mass flight across the Atlantic. Fine mint with hinge remainders, the set is estimated at £500 but catalogued at £1,285.
