TOURISM:
Munich is famed for Oktoberfest, the annual celebration of German beer, but also has year-round attractions.
Its medieval cathedral, the very impressive Frauenkirche, dominates the skyline, and Neuschwanstein, Mad King Ludwig II of Bavaria's breathtaking fairytale castle, is just a day's excursion away, and can be visited together with Lake Starnberg, where Ludwig is said to have drowned mysteriously in 1886.
The city has excellent public transport, making tourist attractions easy to reach.
