Canada Post releases definitive with its image reversed
One of the Flags definitives, issued on December 27, featured the lighthouse at Point Pachena in British Columbia, on the west coast. But the agency which supplied the photograph had inadvertently 'flipped' it, and no-one realised until a former lighthouse-keeper complained.Iain Colquhoun wrote to Canada's Times Colonist newspaper, saying: 'I find it offensive that they've done that,' adding 'Can you imagine showing the Parliament building backwards on a stamp?'
Nicole Lemire of Canada Post said: 'The image was flipped accidentally. It was purchased from a reputable agency and it was not until it became public that we were made aware that it had been scanned incorrectly. There is no text or other features that could have allowed the naked eye to detect the error. Only someone who knows the location could see it.'
A corrected stamp will be released in the spring, but the error won't become a rarity. Canada Post had already released about half its run of 25 million.
