Munich air disaster victim honoured

A Manchester United footballer who died in the Munich air disaster in 1958 has been honoured with a stamp from Ireland.
Liam Whelan was 22 when he, along with eight team-mates and 14 other people, died in a crash on take-off from Munich airport following a European Cup tie.
Whelan, from Dublin, had been United's top scorer in 1956-57, with 26 goals in 39 appearances, and had won four caps for the Republic of Ireland.
The 55c stamp bears an image of him and the memorial clock, set at the time of the disaster, at United's Old Trafford stadium. It was issued two days before the 50th anniversary, which fell on February 6.
Ireland's Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, is known to be a Manchester United fan.
